Their Story: “Michael and I met at my family’s restaurant 5 years ago here in Florida. We decided on a small destination wedding in Colorado for two main reasons: 1.) We both grew up vacationing with our families in Colorado during ski season….we LOVE Colorado and the Rockies!, and 2.) We wanted to avoid the stress of planning a large wedding and wanted something more intimate and meaningful with our closest family members.” Micro-Wedding DetailsWe often work with couples who have held fond childhood memories of Colorado and want to expand those memories into a new life together. We are so glad that when time came for Mary Anne and Michael to tie-the-knot, they reached out to me through my Ceremony Site Report service - a great place to get started as it is a written consultation in which we not only provide great affordable ceremony site that fit with couples needs, budget, and priorities….. but, we also give planning guidance to make it all flow well. Mary Anne and Michael identified heir top priorities as having scenic mountain views, simple logistics, a meaningful ceremony, photography and wildflowers ….. all reasonably priced. Check, check and check! ⬇️ 🎉 Of course, I’m biased, but our Colorado all inclusive micro-wedding packages in the mountains are picturesque, serene and represent couples’ past, present and future. Micro-Wedding PlanningMary Ann and Michael chose to travel back to their beloved Rockies, inviting only their nearest and dearest friend and family members, mostly traveling from Florida, for a total guest count of 32 people…. Including the kids. They crafted an experience that was unforgettable for everyone. The concept of a destination micro-wedding, while intimate, could have been overshadowed by complexities. But, we made sure to keep not only the planning, but the wedding day logistics for them easy and smooth. Since I have a ton of experience with Breckenridge weddings, I have systems and processes to keep the planning easy and streamlined. They chose Sapphire Point as their ceremony destination. Because they have two kids, and their families are close, they rented a large vacation house in Breckenridge which allowed them to order take-out and have a post-wedding celebrations (not a party - vacation home owners frown on that!). How Micro-Wedding Planning WorksThe first “wave” of planning involves booking vendors like photographer, officiant, hair/makeup, and baker. Couples get to choose from our network of 8 professional photographers, as well as a group of officiants that align with their style and vibe. Being also a yoga instructor, I knew Leslie would be perfect for customizing a sage ceremony that they wanted. Also during this first “wave”, I create a logistical “Agenda” PDF which is a starting point for the couples’ micro-wedding day timing/sequencing. It's like a blueprint for their wedding day that we make edits & tweaks to throughout their planning. But, the good thing is that it is easy for couples to reach out to vendors who are NOT included in our package - like hair/makeup stylists and restaurants/chefs because all they have to do is share this “Agenda” with them and that enables the vendors to provide couples with customized quotes. One other thing to note: couples are not alone in finding hair/makeup stylists and/or restaurants/chefs. We keep a running list of those vendors that our past couples have used and we make recommendations to restaurants/chef that we think would be a good match for the couple’s budget, needs, priorities and group size. Once all the the vendors and logistics are setup, the next “wave” of wedding planing are the details, like …..
Micro-Wedding Day LogisticsAs with every wedding day, we packed up the car with our supplies: cake stands, garden wagon, Bluetooth speaker, shawls/furs, umbrellas, and a little supplies kit - we bring all the necessities to make your wedding day run smoothly. After our onsite coordinator (Stefanie did this one) picked up the cake and florals, we made the beautiful drive up to Summit County and met Mary Anne in her room, along with our photographer Kathryn Kim, with mom and daughter as they were finishing up hair & makeup services with Breckenridge Chopping Block. We allow ourselves about 15 minutes before starting our photography & coordination service to meet everyone and get a layout of the lodging property. TIP: it helps to have your getting ready room all picked up, hang your dress, set out your accessories and have anyone else in your getting ready room all dressed by the time we arrive. This ensures that the wedding prep and departures will run peacefully and on-time. To keep logistics easy, we planned for a first-look after their getting ready at the vacation house. I like to make sure that we incorporate mothers and other immediate family members with these moments, like Michael pinning the boutonniere on his son - precious! After everyone is all ready, we loaded up the cars and convoyed to the ceremony site overlooking Lake Dillon. There, our 2nd coordinator was waiting, playing some background music while other guests arrived. Micro-Wedding CeremoniesOnce everyone was cue-up, we started her MOH’s (their daughter) entrance song, “Khan” by Trevor Hall followed up withe Mary Anne’s entrance song “Her” also by Trevor Hall and Emory Hall. Their ceremony was filled with significance and personalization: a sage ceremony, personal vows they wrote to each other, and laughter …. lots of laughter! Getting ready for their kiss, we cued up “Follow the Sun” by Xavier Rudd and they they soon exited. But…. They didn’t go far as that is a great time to do group photos with all the guest. And yes, we like to do a large group photo to kick it off - this is one of my favorite shots as its like a visual guest book that you can enlarge and hang on your wall at home to remember those closest and dearest to you. Once group photos were finished, we sent the guests back to the vacation house where a BBQ company had setup a casual buffet. We finished some alone-time photos with Mary Anne and Micael before returning to the vacation house to do some short speeches and cutting of the cake. Behind the ScenesEver wonder what goes on behind-the-scenes of a micro-wedding day? Jaime L. Barba, one of our talented professional photographers, captured me at work from one of our May 2023 weddings in Boulder, Colorado. Enjoy! .... and yes, she does wedding-day content creation (a great alternative if you cannot afford videography) for couples as well as photography.
Content CreationWhat is a wedding day content creator? It’s someone who is there on your wedding day taking pictures on a cell phone (or in Jaime's case, her professional equipement), documenting behind-the-scenes moments, capturing and telling stories, and delivering short-form media content of your wedding day in real-time. Checkout one from our September 2023 weddings ⬇️.
