Emma + Scott:  All-inclusive micro-wedding package in Colorado for 35 guests

Their Story:  “We met at our place of work (at the time) two years ago.  Scott and I love Colorado and just could not see ourselves having a huge wedding.  We knew we would enjoy ourselves more and be less stressed over a much smaller and more intimate wedding. We are the most excited to get married more than anything and having a small intimate wedding will allow us to have more alone time and quality time with the important people.”

Wedding Details:   We started working with Emma and Scott through our ceremony site report services, which is like a written consultation with detailed information about site options that will work with their vision, budget, needs and priorities.

Emma didn’t want the traditional floral bouquet, but rather something with greenery to match her DIY decorations.  So, they arranged for us to setup at the restaurant while she was getting her hair & make up done.  We did add some filler blooms for her bud vases and also an MOH bouquet for her best friend from childhood.  The hardest part about this gallery: narrowing down the photos to post - they are so pretty!

They opted to have a standing ceremony with the 34 guests which is a great way to save a little money.  Plus, when guests stand around you in a semi-circle, it actually adds a more intimacy and every one gets a “front row” view.  If your group has an elder guest or two, we can always bring a bench for them.  Overall budget for their ceremony, dinner and travel:  $12,000 (our package was around $5,300).  Feel free to connect with me for more ideas to make your small intimate wedding unique, personable and affordable!

Tips and Ideas:  Emma and Scott had a lot of elements built-in to their wedding day.  It resulted in us extending their originally booked overall time for their package.  We started at a 3 hours service and ended up with a 4 hour service.  I recommend adding about 10 to 15 elements that you want to add-on from a base package.  For example….A base package for us would have these common elements:
  • Getting ready:  a few getting ready moments.  Have everything organized when the photographer arrives.  Room picked up and cleaned, dress hung, and anyone in the room/s with the couple are all dressed and ready to go.  We do recommend only a couple people in the room while getting ready.  This is so the photographer has room to move and depth to capture photos and also so that it can run peacefully without a lot of opinions (yes - the more people in the room, the more direction people want to give).
  • Pinning boutonniere:  we like to incorporate mom, dad, brothers - anyone the groom chooses to pin the boutonniere/s
  • First-look:   This is optional.  If you don’t want to do a first-look, we simply allot more time with the two of you after the ceremony.
  • Pinning boutonniere:  we like to incorporate mom, dad, brothers - anyone the groom chooses to pin the boutonniere/s
  • Convoy out to the ceremony site:  yes - it is easier to get everyone to the site if we convoy out.  Those those guests not getting ready with you, many sites are available on GPS and your planning can give you directions to forward to them in advance of the wedding day.
  • Ceremony:  of course we account for this in the timing & sequencing.  We usually bring a Bluetooth speaker so that you can have som ambiance.
  • Post-wedding group photos:  for small weddings, we recommend giving your photographer a list of 12 to 15 essential photos and/or a list of your guests and their relationship to you.  They will most likely take more photos than that.  This number allows you to get the essentials, and also flexibility to take special requests onsite.
  • Couple-only post-wedding photos:  we usually have about 15 minutes with the couple only (no guests around) for photos while we send the guests ahead to the restaurant.  This sounds short, but our photographers are experience, professional, know the secret spots and work efficiently.
  • Cutting of the cake:  upon arrival at the restaurant (or vacation house), we take a few photos of your cutting our cake.  Then, we say our “goodbyes” before you are seated for dinner.

Add more time if you want to add these elements (I suggest in 15-minute segments):
  • Having a wedding party:  the more bridesmaids and groomsmen you have, the more time we need during the getting ready moments.  Also, if they are not all dressed and ready at our arrival, we’ll need to account for that transition from robes to dresses.
  • More people and getting ready: If you have lots of sisters and/or friends that want to partake in getting ready, even if they are not officially standing up with you, this takes more time.
  • Details:  If you’ve brought a lot of “chat-skis” (i.e. programs, signage, garters, gifts)  that you want us capturing detailed photos of, then we’ll need to allot more time for getting those pictures.
  • Attire:  If you have detailed attire such as lots of buttons and a corset, we’ll want to add more time.
  • First-look with Dad:  The more first looks you want to schedule, the more time we will need.
  • Late people:  be honest with this one.  We all have people in our lives that constantly run late (I have one like this).  I you want to be somewhere at 3:30 pm, you tell them to be there at  3pm.  This must be considered in your timing and be up-front with your planner about the possibility of timeliness challenges in your group.
  • More travel time:  if your lodging and ceremony site is more than a 20-minute drive, account for that transport (same if your restaurant is a distance away).
  • More guests:  we can usually do a 3-hour package up to around 18 guests.  Once you have more, we need more time.  This is because there are often more group photo requests (naturally)
  • Lots of group photos requests.  If you have a long list of group photo requests, naturally more time is needed.
  • More time for couple-only photos.  If you’d like more couple-time time only with the photographer or you want to go to some second+ sites.
  • Announcements at the restaurant:  yes, even a 10-second announcement into the restaurant or vacation house will take more time. This is because often the couple wants to grab a drink, you want to refresh & use the restroom, and then the emcee has to be “cued”.
  • First and other dances:  again, this takes time to cue up the music, and then of course to do the dancing.
  • Stay throughout the dinner.  Yes, this would add quite a bit of time.  But, if you want a professional photographer to stay throughout the evening, it can certainly be arranged!

    About Wendee

I've been planning weddings since 1995 when I moved to Colorado from Iowa.  I cut my teeth at Keystone Resort in their wedding department, then ventured on to planning corporate meetings.  But, I kept helping friends, and their friends with weddings, eventually starting my first full-service company in 2002 (yes - planned the big overwhelming ones).  In 2012 with the birth of my son, values shifted and I decided to "go small" with intimate and meaningful micro-weddings  Please connect with me to  make your dreamy, simple mountain wedding come true!

    Behind the Scenes

Ever wonder what goes on behind-the-scenes of a micro-wedding day?  Jaime L. Barba, one of our talented professional photographers, captured me at work from one of our May 2023 weddings in Boulder, Colorado.  Enjoy! .... and yes, she does wedding-day content creation (a great alternative if you cannot afford videography) for couples as well as photography.

    Content Creation

What is a wedding day content creator?  It’s someone who is there on your wedding day taking pictures on a cell phone (or in Jaime's case, her professional equipement), documenting behind-the-scenes moments, capturing and telling stories, and delivering short-form media content of your wedding day in real-time.  Checkout one from our  September 2023 weddings  ⬇️.
