Calling all Star Wars enthusiasts who are planning their special day! Are you looking for a unique and fun way to celebrate your love with a May the 4th theme? Do you want to keep things intimate and personal with a micro-wedding or elopement in Colorado? Look no further, young Padawans, for we have the perfect guide to help you plan your own epic and elegant Star Wars wedding celebration! Kerri + Grant reached out to us about four months in advance of their May the 4th wedding. And, you guessed it: Grant is a big Star Wars buff. So, the date was set! But, Kerri and Grant wanted a small scnic outdoors venue for their Colorado wedding. Thus, they opted on a scenic overlook in Summit County that coule accommodae their small group of 21 guests all traveling from Kansas. They rented a large vaction house in Copper Mountain - one that could accommodate all of their guests and allow for Grant's sister, a professional chef, cater a barbeque dinner for them after their Star Wars themed wedding cermeony. One thing that Kerri was struggling with was the dress. She wanted to honor Grant's Star Wars wedding vision, but didn't know how to do that with keeping up some of the elegrant wedding traditions. Though she could certainly dress as Princess Leia and wear a flowy dress, she wanted to keep some of it traditional. She also couldn't decided on a white dress and a black dress (a color she felt more comfortable in). So, she kept it a secret from Grant and chose BOTH!.... which she also kept secret. So, we did the first look and you can tell by his surprise, she didn't know which one she had chosen. But, the surpirses for Grant didn't end there. After returning from the wedding, Kerri had to "go to the bathroom". She she headed upstairs and changed into the black dress! Yes, if you are decideing between dresses for your elopement day, why not have BOTH?! One for the cermeony and one for the dinner. See photos below ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ The first step to planning your Star Wars-themed micro-wedding or elopement is to find the perfect venue. Custom Weddings of Colorado offers a range of wedding packages that include venue options, so you can choose the location that best suits your vision. For a Star Wars-themed wedding, you may want to consider a venue that resembles a setting from the movies, such as a castle (Miramont Castle?) or a desert landscape (The Great Sandunes?). But, Kerri and Grant chose to exchange vows at a scenic overlook near Lake Dillon: both mountains and lakes! Contact Wendee and she asist with finding a small Colorado venue that will work well with a Star Wars inspired wedding. Decorations. Once you have your venue, it's time to bring in the Star Wars-inspired decorations. You can start by incorporating your favorite characters, quotes, and symbols into your decor. Use lightsabers as centerpieces.... and better yet - have your guests hold up lightsabers as a saber arch after you kiss and exit down the Ailes. Add Han Solo and Princess Leia figurines to your cake topper (though Kerri and Grant ordered a custom cake topper on Etsy). Your can also display a sign that says "May the Force be with us". You can also use the iconic Star Wars color scheme of black, white, and silver as a basis for your decor. Custom Weddings of Colorado can help you incorporate light touches of elegant Star Wars themes into your simple micro-wedding package. Kerri and Grant kept their Star Wars theme understated and just kept with pretty florals for a May wedding in the mountains. Can you tell we love her bouquet? ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ Attire: Dressing up in Star Wars-inspired outfits can be a fun way to bring your theme to life. You can go all out with cosplay costumes, or choose more subtle touches like a Star Wars-themed tie or a Darth Vader cufflink. For the bride, you can add a Star Wars-inspired hair accessory or incorporate your favorite character's color scheme into your bouquet. For the groom, you can wear a Star Wars-themed boutonniere or add a lightsaber to your suit. Our idea: have the oficiant wearing a Star Wars mask ask the couple walks down the aisle. They can continue wearing it throughout the wedidng, or simply take it off as the cermeony commences. The possibilities are endless, and Custom Weddings of Colorado has a range of wedding dress and suit packages to suit your needs. Food and Drinks: You can also incorporate Star Wars elements into your food and drink menu. Serve cocktails with names like "Mos Eisley Margarita" or "Death Star Martini", or create a menu inspired by your favorite Star Wars planets. You can also incorporate a Star Wars cake into your dessert table, with a design that features your favorite characters or quotes. If you prefer a non-traditional cake, you can also have a Star Wars-inspired dessert, such as cupcakes with lightsaber toppers. Custom Weddings of Colorado can help you plan your perfect Star Wars-themed menu, and offer catering as part of their wedding packages. Entertainment: Finally, you'll want to make sure your guests are entertained throughout the night. You can play Star Wars music during the ceremony or reception, set up a photo booth with Star Wars props, or even have a lightsaber duel as your first dance. You can also include a viewing of your favorite Star Wars movie as part of your reception, which is a perfect actiivity for small micro-weddings where you've rented a large vacation house that has a theater in the basement. Have Star Wars-related games and activities for your guests, like little Lego sets set-out for the kids.... or the adults who are kids at heart. With these tips and ideas, you can create the elegant May the 4th and/or Star Wars-themed wedding celebration of your dreams. Behind the ScenesEver wonder what goes on behind-the-scenes of a micro-wedding day? Jaime L. Barba, one of our talented professional photographers, captured me at work from one of our May 2023 weddings in Boulder, Colorado. Enjoy! .... and yes, she does wedding-day content creation (a great alternative if you cannot afford videography) for couples as well as photography.
Content CreationWhat is a wedding day content creator? It’s someone who is there on your wedding day taking pictures on a cell phone (or in Jaime's case, her professional equipement), documenting behind-the-scenes moments, capturing and telling stories, and delivering short-form media content of your wedding day in real-time.
