Dreaming of a picture-perfect mountain wedding that’s intimate, personal, and with gorgeous mountain backdrops? Kaylin and Alex’s wedding is all that and more—a celebration filled with love, laughter, family and breathtaking Colorado views. Whether you’re looking for tips on how to find small wedding venues, explore VRBO wedding options, or plan your own micro-wedding, you’re in the right place. Let's relive this beautiful day and uncover the secrets behind their seamless celebration. Their Story Kaylin and Alex’s story is the stuff of rom-coms. They first met in EMT class back in January 2018 when Kaylin was still in nursing school. By September 2018, the sparks had turned into a full-blown romance. Fast-forward to now, Alex works as a firefighter/paramedic while Kaylin saves lives as an ER nurse. Together with their adorable 3-year-old German Shepherd (the true family MVP), they live in Louisiana. After their engagement in December, the couple decided to escape their hectic lives for their dream wedding in Colorado, surrounded by their closest family and friends. How the Planning Started — The Ceremony Site ReportPlanning a wedding in Colorado can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to choosing the perfect ceremony site. This is where the Ceremony Site Report came in handy. Designed to simplify the process, the report provided Kaylin and Alex with a list of scenic locations tailored to their priorities, including stunning mountain views, easy logistics, and plenty of seating for their intimate group. The Final Choice: The couple selected Sapphire Point Overlook for their ceremony, a picturesque spot offering jaw-dropping views of Lake Dillon. For their lodging and post-ceremony celebration, they opted for a cozy vacation home they'd rented via VRBO (#213920). This setup offered them the perfect blend of adventure, ease, and intimacy. Wedding Day Setup at a VRBO Vacation HomeIf you’re considering a vacation home for your small wedding, Kaylin and Alex’s setup is a masterclass in how to do it right. Vacation homes offer unmatched versatility compared to traditional venues. Their Breckenridge house served as a hub for the day’s events—from getting ready in the morning to a cozy dinner celebration in the evening. Why Choose a Vacation Home for Small Weddings?

The Small Wedding Day TimelineMorning Prep & First Looks (But Not with Each Other!) Kaylin and her moms started the morning with hair and makeup at the vacation house, courtesy of the talented stylists from Beauty and Babes. The photographer arrived at the house to capture all the beautiful details (think accessories, dress shots, and those heartfelt, personalized gifts Kaylin prepared for the moms). Kaylin’s first look with her dad was a tearjerker, and Alex stayed tucked away until it was go-time. The Ceremony at Sapphire Point Overlook The group convoyed to Sapphire Point together—picture a small caravan of cars with a mission.. Kaylin’s dad not only officiated the ceremony but also walked her down the aisle to “Long Haul” by Ian Munsick. Under a clear blue sky and surrounded by the Colorado Mountains, Kaylin and Alex exchanged vows before sealing it with a kiss. Photography around Lake Dillon While the rest of the family returned to the vacation home, Kaylin and Alex took advantage of the golden hour to get some stunning portraits around Lake Dillon. Celebrations Back at the Vacation Home By the time the guests returned to the house, their personal chefs were ready with appetizers, setting the tone for an elegant yet intimate dinner party. When Kaylin and Alex arrived, we rolled into first dances, a father-daughter dance, a mother-son dance, cake cutting & toasts and then finished with making it official by signing the marriage license. Then, everyone cozied up to a delicious and intimate sit-down meal prepared by their private chefs. Considering a Vacation Home Wedding? Behind the ScenesEver wonder what goes on behind-the-scenes of a micro-wedding day? Jaime L. Barba, one of our talented professional photographers, captured me at work from one of our May 2023 weddings in Boulder, Colorado. Enjoy! .... and yes, she does wedding-day content creation (a great alternative if you cannot afford videography) for couples as well as photography.
Content CreationWhat is a wedding day content creator? It’s someone who is there on your wedding day taking pictures on a cell phone (or in Jaime's case, her professional equipement), documenting behind-the-scenes moments, capturing and telling stories, and delivering short-form media content of your wedding day in real-time.
